uh hi again ... i came across a situation in which linux wouldn't let me eject the cdrom lsof showed that hal was the only process using the cdrom... is this by design ? yes uh.... then how to eject the CD in a hal-friendly way ?

*** benny (~bmeurer@pD9E5F6B7.dip.t-dialin.net) has quit: "http://xfce.org/~benny/" mharris ? *** blueSceaDa (~itsjustme@bluesceada.user) has quit: "bluesceada.funpic.de - my homepage" I don't know anything about hal If a process has a file open on any device, the device may not be ejected. heh so why answer the previous question then Because it has nothing to do with hal moron It is a kernel thing hey gimme a break i know that if a process uses the device it can't be ejected

then you know the answer i was asking : is it normal that hal is accessing the device on its own no, you misread the question, that's all... assumption being the mother of all f*ck*ps

it's by design of the kernel not hal read again Mr_Smoke lsof showed that hal was the only process using the cdrom... Mr_Smoke is this by design ? *** jsk_ (~john@dhcp37.astro.cornell.edu) has joined channel #freedesktop ie : is it normal that hal uses the cdrom... which is otherwise idle You didn't state yourself clearly in the first place. "is this by design" doesn't refer to the design of anything specific Implying "by design of anything". Yes, by design of the kernel. My answer. right, which automatically granted you the right to belittle me heh so why answer the previous question then fine. After you were rude. doh. i fail tu see the rudeness, but nevermind. I answered the first question, because I knew the answer. Without knowing anything about hal, or needing to. If it isn't what you were looking for: 1) Be more specific next time 2) Don't be an asshole to people trying to help you look when you answered you had two options : 1) assuming that I was a moron and answering as such *** ChanServ (ChanServ@services.) has changed mode for #freedesktop to +o mharris *** mharris (~mharris@mharris.fedora) has changed mode for #freedesktop to +b !@*.spinning-plates.eu.org *** Mr_Smoke (smokey@marla.spinning-plates.eu.org) has left channel #freedesktop

did somebody wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? nah, he was justified in that mr_smoke was being an asshole not really, no
